Snowbiz in the Station Building on Duke Street is the most convenient hire in town because it sits beside the NZSki bus stop, opens at 7.15am and lets you collect your gear the afternoon before. Browns Ski Shop on Brecon Street is the pick for boot fitting from a family-run shop that has been doing it since 1980, and NZSki's own Snow Centre is the one to use if you would rather collect on the mountain itself.

Ski Hire in Queenstown — common questions

Coronet Peak runs an early-winter period from 29 May to 12 June 2026 and its full season from 13 June to 4 October 2026. The Remarkables runs 27 June to 11 October 2026. Coronet Peak is the only field of the two with night skiing, on selected dates from 1 July.

In town, in almost every case. Town shops open early — Snowbiz from 7.15am — and most let you collect the afternoon before, so you are not queuing at the base building while the lifts are turning. On-mountain rental at Coronet Peak is first-in, first-served and cannot be booked ahead.

Some do, but do not assume it. The shops on this list are built around town-centre collection, and the NZSki Snow Centre requires you to return gear to wherever you collected it. Confirm delivery directly with the shop when you book rather than relying on a directory.

The rental side is seasonal. Browns runs a year-round retail shop on Shotover Street but its Brecon Street rental store only opens once the ski areas do, and the NZSki Snow Centre is winter-only. Outside Sports trades year-round as an outdoor retailer with snow rental in season.
