Top 12 Pizza Restaurants in Queenstown
Woodfired, New York-style and taproom slices across the Wakatipu basin.
Woodfired, New York-style and taproom slices across the Wakatipu basin.
The Cow on Cow Lane is the one to do once — Queenstown's oldest continuously operating restaurant, in the same stone stable since 1977, with a fire, communal tables and a queue. For the best actual pizza rather than the best story, Casetta does proper Neapolitan and Fat Badgers on Camp Street does 20-inch New York-style. If you want a view with it, drive seven minutes to Canyon Brewing at Arthurs Point and eat above the Shotover.

The Cow
Operating from the same stone stable since 1977, The Cow is Queenstown's oldest continuously operating restaurant and hasn't touched its pizza menu since opening day. Roaring fireplace, communal tables, zero pretension.
- Booking
- No booking culture and a tiny stone room — expect to queue, and go early or late rather than at 7pm.
- Season
- Open daily from midday until late, year-round.
Winnies Gourmet Pizza Bar
Upstairs on The Mall: family-friendly gourmet pizza early, then a retractable roof, a DJ and a late crowd. Two completely different venues depending on what time you walk in.
- Booking
- Check the day before you walk up: Monday to Wednesday it opens at 4pm, so there is no lunch service early in the week. Thursday to Sunday it opens at midday.
- Season
- Year-round, till late.
Fat Badgers Pizza Bar
Hand-stretched New York-style pizza in 12 and 20-inch sizes on Camp Street, with an outdoor deck and the longest opening hours of any real pizzeria in the centre.
- Booking
- Walk-ins are fine but booking is worth it at peak. Collection and delivery both available.
- Season
- Sunday to Thursday midday–11pm, Friday and Saturday to 11.30pm.
The London Underground Pizza Bar
A steel-and-brick basement on Shotover Street doing scratch-made pizza — including a three-foot Big Ben — before it turns into one of the loudest late rooms in town.
- Booking
- Dinner only, from 5pm, Monday to Saturday — and closed Sundays. Third-party listings still claim midday, seven days; they are wrong.
- Season
- Year-round, evenings.
Canyon Brewing
Sourdough pizza from an Italian oven, house-brewed beer alongside it, and a deck hanging over the Shotover River. About seven minutes from town, and the view is the reason to go.
- Booking
- It is a brewpub with excellent pizza rather than a pizzeria — go for the whole package. Worth booking for a deck table.
- Season
- Open seven days from 11am, year-round.
Rakau Woodfire Pizzas
A small garden pizza bar at Arthurs Point with its own vegetable patch, bean bags on the lawn and Gibbston Valley cheese — locally sourced and about as unhurried as pizza gets.
- Booking
- Ring 021 373 420 before you drive out — their published hours are inconsistent and this is a 10-minute trip from town.
- Season
- Best in summer, when the lawn is the whole point.
Sal's Authentic New York Pizza — Frankton
Proper foldable New York slices sold by the giant slice, in the Queenstown Central precinct at Frankton, with Remarkables views from the window seats.
- Booking
- Counter service, no bookings. There are two Sal's in the district — this one and Beach Street in town.
- Season
- Year-round.
Casetta Italian Kitchen
Traditional Neapolitan pizza on properly blistered hand-stretched bases inside the Eatspace food hall, with fresh pasta alongside and stools at the open kitchen.
- Booking
- Food-hall format, dine-in or takeaway, no bookings needed. Entrances off Camp Street, Beach Street and Cow Lane.
- Season
- Open daily 11am–9pm — it closes earlier than most CBD pizza rooms, so it is not a late option.
Bella Cucina
A Brecon Street fixture since 2008 near the gondola end of town, changing its menu daily around what is fresh and turning out wood-fired pizza and handmade pasta.
- Booking
- Worth knowing: there is a 90-minute sitting limit between 4pm and 8.30pm. Book after 8.30pm if you want to linger.
- Season
- Open from midday till late, daily.
Little Aosta
Ben Bayly's relaxed Arrowtown spin-off from Aosta next door — woodfired pizza from a clay oven, fresh pasta and a spritz bar in the historic Buckingham Street laneway.
- Booking
- A 20-minute drive from Queenstown, so make it part of an Arrowtown afternoon rather than a special trip.
- Season
- Year-round; Arrowtown is at its best in autumn.
Frankton Pizzeria
The Frankton local — generous gourmet pizzas, pasta made on site, and the most complete vegan and gluten-free offering on this list. Unfussy and reasonable by Queenstown standards.
- Booking
- Fully licensed. Free delivery on online orders over $40.
- Season
- Open daily midday–10pm.
Sal's Authentic New York Pizza — Beach Street
Sal's town-centre branch on Beach Street, running the same New York dough and sauce as Frankton — the cheapest quick feed in the middle of Queenstown.
- Booking
- Counter service, no bookings.
- Season
- Year-round.
